A few people have asked me about the purple ooze on her fingers, unfortunately with this cropped image the context behind it is slightly thrown off.
Basically, this piece was painted with the narrative that Samus is following a blood trail from a space pirate she has been fighting. The purple ooze is the space pirates blood that she has knelt down to inspect.
